I don’t hate water,
I hate its body.
I hate bodies of water;
It drowns me.
I’ve never been close
To a heap of water,
I’ve never being close enough
To be touched by the waves.
Some people say
I am possessed,
By a spirit
They call mammy water.
Well, I call her goddess.
I am afraid that if
I get too close,
She would see me
And take me off my friends.
So, I’d rather
Stay at the feet of the water
Than ride up to its body.
