He Stopped Loving Her Today
He said I’ll love you till I die,
She told him you’ll forget in time,
As the year ran slowly by,
She still preyed upon his mind.
He kept her picture on the wall,
He still loved her through it all,
He went half crazy now and then,
Hoping she’d come back again.
Kept some letters, write-ups in his archive,
Dated 2019,
He had underlined in red,
Every single I love you.
She couldn’t call or chat in a long time,
He thought she’d come to see him one last time,
He swore to be with her for a lifetime,
Not knowing what she had in mind was a meantime.
I went to see him just today,
Oh, I didn’t see any tears,
All dressed up to go away,
He stopped loving her today.
First time, I’d seen him smile in months.
