We were told lies
Lies upon lies
Lies that took us captive
Put us in bondage
So much that we couldn’t deny
As all we did was to defend
Right from religion to culture
Rolling from moral to gender
All they did was to spite us, control us and manipulate our lives.
Now we are here
With the ball in our court
All alone in the field
But left with the truth and lies
Just like the blacks and whites
Making decisions like we never did
All we asked was a life of our own
To make decisions and be left alone
But we’ve been wounded by our very own
Not foreigners, nor outsiders
Our own people, our blood and flesh
So when do we become free?
When do we let go of our self-made bondage?
